"Millstone Hill Radars" Note Card
Featuring two ionospheric radars (completed 1963, 1978) and a radar/radio telescope (completed 1964). The latter mapped the lunar surface for the 1969 Apollo landing and tracked orbital debris for NASA's manned spaceflights in the 1990s. A nearby radar, commissioned as an early warning prototype system for incoming ballistic missiles, detected and non-cooperatively tracked Sputnik I in 1957.
